Tuesday, Dec. 8, Silky Oak – Stableford

This past week we headed south, unfortunately with the absence of our fearless leader, whom went before a panel of monks to be handed down a life sentence.  Hopefully, he will be back out on parole next week.

Our first stop was Silky Oak where we played from the forward tees, as the designers of the course seemed to believe that the first half of every fairway should be a lake.  Therefore, it was no surprise that the big hitters would dominate, and they don’t come much bigger than Tony Wakeling (H/cap 18) who had a strong finish culminating in a fine birdie on the last par 5 to finish with 36 points.  Tony was counted out however on count back by fellow heavyweight Tom Murray who shot a consistent 36 off a 10 handicap.

The featherweights could only pick up a single nearest the pin for Dan Oshiro.

Eastern Star’s finest with runners up Neil, Jon and Paddy.

Thursday, Dec. 10, Eastern Star – Stableford

Thursday saw us at Eastern Star where we were apprehensive about the course being crowded and expensive, seeing it was a holiday -Constitution Day, but our worries were ill founded as it seems the locals were too busy writing a new one and the course was offering a very good promotional rate.

We had several new visitors joining us, and I’m sure they enjoyed the day as the course was in as good a condition as I can remember, but it was the old guard who battled it out for the prizes with three players finishing with 33 points vying for runners up.

Joop Bijsterbosch missed out but consoled himself with two nearest the pins.  Sadly Neil Harvey who had had a good round misshit his final shot to allow Paddy Devereux to claim second place.  But it was Jonathan Pratt who maintained an iron constitution to the very end, and was crowned champion with 37 points.
