St Andrews international, Green Valley was witness to the first zombie inspired Christmas Carol story when their secondary students performed in ‘A Zombie Apocalypse Christmas Carol’ adapted and directed by Douglas Heron on the 2nd and 3rd of December. The students and staff worked very hard to make the show a success and this year’s Secondary production was even bigger and bolder combining live theatre with film flashbacks and flash forwards; it was a true multimedia feast.

The story of A Christmas Carol is a familiar one; the mean, miserly Scrooge visited by the three Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future in order to show him the error of his ways. But what if the story is set in a post-apocalyptic future where zombies are a part of everyday life? What if ‘Babs’ Crachitt is a single mum and the spirits come in pairs and are definitely one berry short of the full mistletoe?  The answers unfolded during the show as Scrooge received his ghostly visitations and found it in his heart to change his miserly ways and enjoy Christmas to its full. A timely message!

Students and Teachers alike considered it one of the best productions yet.Students and Teachers alike considered it one of the best productions yet.

All of the cast and crew did a spectacular job to make the show one of the best St Andrews has produced. Special mention must be given to Matthew Davies who did a wonderful job of portraying the avaricious and nasty old Scrooge and it was hard to believe that he is still a Year 9 student.

The two evening performances had the added bonus of delicious food and drinks provided by the PTG both before the show and during the intermission making the evening a memorable treat for the senses in every regard.
