Chonburi land-transport officials inspected public buses and checked drivers for alcohol use during a pre-holidays inspection at the Pattaya bus terminal.
Kosin Weeranantanaphan, head of the province’s Department of Land Transport office, led a team of inspectors to the Rungreung Tour Co. terminal on North Road Dec. 25 to survey drivers and the condition of buses.
Kosin said there will be many passengers using public buses during the New Year’s holiday, so the department needed to inspect both the interior and exterior of buses for engine condition, safety belts, fire extinguishers and tire wear.
Safety officials have been inspecting tour buses in Pattaya to try and make sure they are in their best condition for the holiday travel period.
Drivers also underwent breath analysis to determine if any were driving while intoxicated. He said drivers should be tested before every trip.
The team also spent time educating passengers, encouraging them to wear safety belts at all times.
