Sunday, Dec. 20, Green Valley – Monthly Medal

A Flight

1st Barry Copestake (15) net 74

2nd Phil Davies (13) net 74

3rd Pat Regan (12) net 75

B Flight

1st Pierre Bietry (21) net 60

2nd Eddie Bielby (18) net 68

3rd Lou Szigligeti (19) net 71

Pierre ‘the magician’ Bietry knew the round was out there, it just hadn’t been answering the call.  Well it heard him in time to take the monthly medal as he scorched the course with a gross 81, a whopping net 60, to equal the Lewiinski’s record set by Gerry Roche earlier this year.  Pierre took home the lead crystal whiskey glass embolic of the monthly medal plus a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey and had his name etched on the Lewiinski’s wall of shame.

Pierre Bietry (left) is congratulated by Gerry Roche.

Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Bielby thought he must have had a chance to win the medal with his sparkling net 68 and most times he would have.  Aussie star Lou ‘Zig-zag’ filled the flight with a solid net 71.

There was plenty of drama in A Flight as Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake and Phil ‘the Welsh’ wonder’ Davies were tied on net 74’s.  Barry took the flight gold courtesy of a slightly better back nine.  The calculator was on overtime as it was out again to separate Ireland’s young Pat Reagan and Big Kevin Hamilton; the count back conclusion was that Pat got to stand on the podium and Kevin was left at sea level and potless.

After the presentation back at Lewiinski’s Pierre kindy gave a gracious bell ring.

We have been informed that Jim Elphick is in hospital with a bout of dengue fever.  All at Lewinski’s wish him a speedy recovery.

Monday, Dec. 21, Greenwood A & B – Stableford

A Flight

1st Peter Terry (17) 37pts

2nd Mike Allidi (2) 35pts

3rd John Feehan (15) 35pts

B Flight

1st Peter Walker (19) 37pts

2nd Lou Szigligeti (19) 34pts

3rd Richard Mitchell (19) 33pts

A trip to Greenwood to play the A & B layouts is always a good test of golf, with its deep fairway bunkers and tough rough.  The one aspect of Greenwood that I find most appealing is the quality of its fairways; you always get a good lie on the lush grass a point other more scenic courses could copy.  The greens here are always fast and true and this, coupled with a smiling welcome, overcomes the scenery reality.

So it was a fair sized gang that departed Lewiinski’s and the difficulty of the day was shown by the fact that only two competitors actually beat their handicap.

In A Flight the winner with a co-man of the match 37 points was Peter Terry.  Peter was two clear of a trio of players, Mike Allidi, Ireland’s John Feehan and Mike Jefferys.  Mike Allidi emerged from the pile-up with the silver, John the bronze as Mike ‘the Welsh dragon’ was left out in the cold.

The laurels in B Flight went to co-man of the match Peter Walker with his 37 points.  Aussie star Lou ‘Zig-zag’ took the silver three shots in arrears, leaving Richard Mitchell to tidy up the flight with 33 points.

Wednesday, Dec. 23, Plutaluang S & E – Stableford

1st Lou Szigligeti (19) 37pts

2nd Colin Smith (13) 34pts

3rd Pen Caruthers (15) 32pts

Plutaluang afforded its usual warm welcome to the Lewiinski’s golf society on this Wednesday as the group visited to play a stableford tournament.  The weather was hot and humid and the course was well presented with very slick greens.

Lou ‘Zig-zag’ was the man of the match with a solid 37 points and was also the only player to better his handicap on the day.  Following Lou up the podium steps with 34 points was Colin Green as Pen Caruthers rounded out the flight with 32 points.

Friday, Dec. 25, Burapha – Stableford

1st Lou Szigligeti (19) 43pts

2nd Louise Goergen 37pts

3rd David Wilcox 37pts

4th Peter Wallace (18) 35pts

5th Thierry Petrement (11) 32pts

The man of the match was Lou ‘Zig-zag’ with a sparkling 43 points.  How lucky we are in Pattaya, playing golf on Christmas Day in 30 degree heat.

The battle for second and third place saw a count back fight between Louise Goergen and David Wilcox, with Louise just having the better of it with a more favourably dispersed back nine.  Golf Director Peter Wallace closed the flight with 35 points.
