IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Links Bar
The holiday week started for the Pattaya Golf Society on Monday, December 21 with a visit to Eastern Star to play a stableford competition. The booking had been made three months in advance but a late arriving group delayed our start time for thirty minutes and then slowed progress to a five hour plus round with their play from the yellow tees! Arrrrgh! High season golf at its worst.
The two flights were divided at fourteen and under and the course was in good condition with quite quick greens.
In the second flight Mr Len made third place with 32 points and newly installed PGS Captain Mike King played solid golf for a level par finish in second place. The flight winner was Larry Gibb with 38 very good points.
Treasure Hill – a tough test.
In the top flight Tony Browne and Huw Phillips shared third place with 33 points whilst Vic Woolton went one better in second place. The winner with the best score of the day, gross and points, was Sam McLellan with 39 points. It was fine reward for some accurate and decisive ball striking.
The first division ‘2’s pot was shared by Peter Wilson, Vic Woolton and Sam McLellan whilst in the second flight the pot was added to the prize pool as no one recorded the elusive birdie.
Tomas Nilsson took the non-winners beer whilst the returning Dorsey Richardson qualified for the Booby Bevy but his absence from the presentation saved Mr Len the price of a cool beer.
Treasure Hill not feeling generous
Two days before Christmas the Pattaya Golf Society visited Treasure Hill for a stableford competition off the white tees, on a course which was in excellent condition despite some damp and soft fairways. The seasonal single flight struggled from the off to get the best of the course but scores remained around the average for the toughest course on the schedule.
Sharing third place with 30 points each were long hitting Andrew Purdie and Jon Batty and one point ahead was Jim Ferris, again finding some consistency in his game. The winner was George Robinson with a fine 34 points.
There were five birdie ‘2’s with Peter Wilson taking one on the long second hole, Tomas Nilsson, Tony Browne and David Wang birdying the short sixth and Mr Len getting a rare birdie on the long thirteenth.
The non-winners beer draw was won by Murray Edwards and the Booby Bevy went to Banjo Bannister after his poor back nine saw an uncharacteristic low score recorded.
Treasure Hill is never generous and there was certainly very little seasonal cheer for the PGFS golfers this trip.
