A Sattahip man has been charged with appropriating 1.5 rai of government forest land he allegedly planned to strip of its natural resources.

Paisarn Sriruan, 40, was charged with encroachment on public land and destruction of protected forestland Dec. 27 following an inspection of three parcels on Khao Malakoh in Moo 6 village of Najomtien sub-district.

Sattahip District Chief Noraset Sritapatso and a team of district and Najomtien officials inspected the plots on the hillside following complaints that they had been cordoned off with barbed wire and that Paisarn planned to strip them of wood and other resources.

Authorities requested title deeds from the Sattahip Land Office and found that the property has no deeds and belonged to the government.

The case was forwarded to the Department of Forestry, which prepared charges and had them carried out by Najomtien police.

Noraset said the case has been ongoing for some time, with an inspection done on Oct. 25. After that, Paisarn had been warned to remove the fencing, but had not complied.
