PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar
Monday, Jan. 4, Phoenix – Stableford
Just a small group today as we headed to Phoenix for our Monday competition. It was good to play the Lake and Ocean courses, the Lake side is bearing up well for the amount of traffic it is getting on it and is a great designed 9 holes of golf. The greens are very interesting, them being small and undulating and making for some very difficult putts.
It was a grand day for golf with just a nice breeze and a little cloud cover. The scoring wasn’t the best but surprisingly it was the Ocean loop that didn’t take any prisoners today. Out of 11 players there were only three that bettered 30 points.
John Locke & Brett Gale.
The prizes went down to third and George Hensher filled that spot with 31 points. On the same score but with a better back nine to claim second was John Locke while the winner also had 31 points, that being Aussie Brett Gale. Brett also got the only ‘2’ of the day but alas there were not enough players to warrant a prize for that.
Wednesday, Jan. 6, Green Valley – Stableford
After commenting in our weekly report that the pins were in the same position week after week we must thank the management here for ensuring that the pins are now moved on a regular basis. For those that play at Green Valley every week, the pins being in different positions makes for a so much more enjoyable day.
Today was a near perfect day for golf with a cloud cover that kept the temperature at a very acceptable level. Even the birds left their shelter and serenaded all the golfers with a tune that we did not recognize. 38 golfers arrived for a 9 a.m. start on a course that was not over populated.
Capt. Bob’s expertise was called into question when there were 3 scores of 35 points. The back nines the same, as were the back sixes and back threes, but Bob Finley squeezed into fifth place having the better of the 18th hole. The ever present Bob Newell lost another count back but is still speaking to John Player who beat him to stand on the podium with 36 points.
Jim Bell had no such problems with 38 points to clinch second place while Kevin Hamilton won the day with his impressive 40-point return.
There were five ‘2’s recorded, going to Miss Noy, Barry Copestake, Fidge, Kevin Wild and Bob Newell.
Friday, Jan. 8, Burapha – Stableford
Burapha was our venue on Friday in perfect conditions for golf, although we got a shower of rain after 4 holes but it didn’t last long, well not enough to get really wet. The course was in great condition with lightening fast greens that were great to pitch a ball to but were deadly to putt on.
With 6 groups playing we got away to an early start and were finished in just over four hours, which was good as the course was packed.
The scoring was pretty good with a three-way tie on 35 points battling for third, which went to Bob Philp on count back ahead of Brian Orr in fourth and Kevin Wild fifth.
Second place was filled by Noddy Moyle with 37 points but taking the top spot today was Vincent Smyth with a fine 38 points.
There were only two ‘2’s today, coming from Keith Meehan and Joe Mooneyham.
