We teed off 15 minutes ahead of schedule today with two divisions and the cut set at 5-17 in the top flight.

There were two 41-pointers winning both divisions, one of them coming from Jerry McCarthy who has upped his game recently and came through today to win division 1 ahead of Pete Sumner in second with 37.  John Chambers completed the podium in third with 36.

Tom Novak was the winner in division 2 with his 41, while William Chang took second on 39 and Bob Poole placed third with 36.

Tom Novak.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Terry Madsen, Dennis Scougall and Pete Sumner (2), and (Div 2) Roar Berger, William Chang and Tom Novak.

Pete Sumner birdied the 13th and Chris Voller the 6th for the only ‘2’s in the top flight while in division 2 Dave Howden birdied the 13th as well to scoop the pool.

Wednesday, Jan. 6, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

The numbers are creeping up again after the Christmas and New Year festivities and we had seven groups out today in two divisions.  All of the back nine greens here had been sanded, strange for this time of the year, but it was not really a problem.  The course was otherwise in good condition and was enjoyed by all.

After his 37 points on Monday, Pete Sumner, playing off 9, came off the front nine with an amazing 23 points.  He slipped slightly over the back nine but still did enough to win division 1 with 39 points.  Mikael Andersson came in second place with 37 points and Dave Horne took third after beating Alex Cameron and Terry Madsen on count back, all three coming in with 35 points each.

Dave Howden topped division 2 with 38 points and we then had two 37’s fighting for second place, Walter Weber beating John Kelly 19/17 on a back-nine count back.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Terry Madsen, Jerry McCarthy (2) and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) John Hughes, John Kelly and Geoff Stubbs.

Jerry McCarthy birdied the 5th to take the ‘2’s pot in division 1 and John Hughes scooped the division 2 spoils with a ‘2’ on the 7th.

Friday, Jan. 8, Eastern Star – Stableford

We had ten groups out today with the cut in the three flights set at 8-14, 15-18 and 19+.  There was a five-ball just in front of our group and our understanding was that they must have five buggies with no sharing in the high season, but after approaching the marshalls there were no answers.

It was two and half hours to play the front nine and we were expecting some lower scores than normal today with slow play, but with 38 points Dennis Lea, playing off 14, won division 1 with 38 points.  On a role this week, Pete Sumner came in second with a meager 37 and Arthur Hancock was third with 33.

William Chang (left) with John Hughes.

Harry Vincenzi won division 2 with 35 points, three ahead of Tony Thorne in second with 32 and Dennis Scougall placed third with 30 points.

Max Wilson was the winner in division 3 with 37 points, with the golf organizer coming second five points behind and in third place Howard Stanley beat John Hughes on a back-nine count back after they both came in with 33 points each.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Bill Bertram, John Chambers and Arthur Hancock, and (Div 2) Steve Harris, Howard Stanley and Tony Thorne.

Steve Harris birdied the 13th and Barry Stirling the third for the only ‘2’s of the day and they shared the division 2 booty.
