Ceremony held to commemorate King Ramkhamhaeng Memorial Day

SUKHOTHAI – The Sukhothai provincial Governor has attended a ceremony on the occasion of King Ramkhamhaeng Memorial Day, along with government officials and local residents. 

The ceremony was held at the Sukhothai Historical Park where a statue of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great is located. Sukhothai Governor Piti Kaewsalubsee led the group in a wreath laying ceremony before the statue to pay their respects to the king who ruled the ancient Sukhothai Kingdom from 1279 -1298.

Sukhothai residents today joined the event to commemorate King Ramkhamheang’s major achievements including the invention of the Thai alphabet.

January 17 is acknowledged as King Ramkhamhaeng Day in Thailand as on January 17, 1833, King Rama IV discovered the stone tablet inscriptions of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great.
