The championship of twelve months of medal play was on the table this Sunday as the members of the golf society who had won the monthly medals during 2015 vied for what is certainly one of the top awards of the society golf calendar. And the winner was Gerry ‘the Irish Rover’ Roche who fashioned a net 73 off his 18 handicap. It should be noted that Gerry qualified for the Gold competition earlier in the year with a co-record low score of net 60.

The common folk contested a normal monthly medal for January 2016 and it was a very close run affair as two player tied on net 72’s in A Flight; the scales of justice tipping in Kevin Hamilton’s favour over Michel Deletraz. Kevin received a lead cut glass inscribed whisky goblet and a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey and his name will be etched on the Lewiinski’s wall of shame. He also receives an invite to next year’s gold Medal competition in January.
Aussie Lou ‘Zig-zag’ filled the third podium spot with a net 73 while Peter LeNoury tided up the flight with a net 77.
In B Flight it was Jack Mouly who followed Gerry up the podium steps a shot in arrears, William Peach lifted the flight bronze and Pierre ‘the magician’ Bietry closed the flight with a net 77 (just like that).
Monday, Jan. 11, Greenwood C & A – Stableford

We had a large turnout for the trip up the highway 331 to Greenwood. Everyone was well rewarded with a course in excellent condition, no one more so than Michel Deletraz who shrugged off his Sunday count back medal loss to post the top score in A Flight with a superb 39 points and receive the man of the match honours. Pen hen Hou took the flight silver a shot in arrears, leaving low handicapper Mike Allidi to close the flight with a steady even par round.

In B Flight it was the man on form Randy Conti who was standing proudly on the top of the podium with a rock sold 38 points, three clear of flight mate Pen Caruthers. Takeshi Hakozaki San rounded out the flight with 33 points.
Ian Steele took the top spot in the junior flight as he posted a fine 38 points. Ian was followed up the podium steps by the inform Henricus Braale on 34 points while Tiziano Pastro Dal was just glad to see any part of the podium with his 31 points.
Tuesday, Jan. 12, St. Andrews – Stableford

The Lewiinski’s society traveled to Rayong to play the Desmond Muirhead par 74 creation St, Andrews and as always the course was in excellent condition.
Thierry Temime took it upon himself to show the lads how to tackle this tricky layout by returning an excellent 41 points for the man of the match honours and top spot in the single flight. The man on fire at the moment, Randy Conti, filled the silver spot on the podium with a fine 37 points while Golf Director Peter Wallace closed the flight with 34 points.
Wednesday, Jan. 13, Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford
A Flight

A large group (considering the back to back playing days) turned out to take on the formidable Crystal Bay C & A layouts. Michel Deletraz and Co. Kilkenny man Tom Gorey were co-men of the match with 40 sparkling points each in A and B Flights respectively.
Michel was two shots clear of a pair of players tied on 38 points in the form of Takeshi Hakozaki and Jean Goergen, with Takeshi out-pointing Jean on the outer nine for the flight silver. Old friend Chaten ‘The Raja’ Patel rounded out the flight with a steady 37 points.
English man Jimmy ‘Two shots’ Elphick was four shots adrift in B Flight as he picked up the flight silver ahead of Tom’s good mate Christy ‘good’ Knight with 35 while Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw completed the podium places in fourth.
Martin Allard, playing the par-five 18th hole hit a birdie with his second shot. The birdie was a pigeon and was buried next to the fairway – accidents do happen.
Friday, Jan. 15, Parichat – Stableford

The final game of the week took us to the very tough Parichat – a course you either love or hate. John Goergen seems to like it very much as he was one of only two players from a large crowd to better his handicap with an A Flight and man of the match winning 38 points. John was three clear of Michel Deletraz who made it a fourth pay window visit this week with a fair 35 point return. Bruce Anderson closed the flight on 33 points.
Skipping down to the junior flight we saw pay window specialist Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw standing atop the podium as he bettered his handicap with a solid 37 points. John ‘the big easy’ Hartigan followed Peter up the podium steps as he lifted the flight silver with a sound 35 points, leaving Thierry Temime to tidy up the flight with 32 points.
B Flight struggled with the course as Pen Caruthers took the top spot with just 32 points. Pen was two clear of hot shot Randy Conti and Peter ‘the right honourable’ Hynard who where log jammed on 30 points and when the jam was cleared it was Randy’s back nine maths that were more favourably dispersed.
