Sunday, Jan. 10, Green Valley – Stableford

Today we were doing a double at Green Valley – our first Monthly Medal of 2016 and our first ever Gold Medal.

I would think that Ged Foy created a record today which would probably qualify him for a place in the Guinness Book of Records as he won the Gold Medal on what was his birthday, something I would think no one else has ever done before.  What a way to celebrate.  Well done Ged!  It was even more impressive as the week before Ged had played very well and had lost two shots on his handicap on top of all the shots he has lost over the past few months.

George Cullen.

George Cullen was the winner of A Flight and the Monthly Medal, having beaten his friend and playing partner Nick Caulfield on a count back with both of them having a net sixty nine.  Both Paul Pavloff and John Chambers had a net seventy three with Paul beating John on a count back that went down to the last three holes, so John had to settle for fourth place.  Alan Parker took the fifth place with a net seventy five.

In B Flight Brendan Roddy, who has come back in to form for the past few weeks, was the winner with a net seventy.  Ged Foy also had a net seventy but I don’t think he will be too disappointed to have been beaten into second by Brendan on the count back as it was enough for him to take the Gold.  Russell Gilroy came third with a net seventy two while Frank McGowan placed fourth with a net seventy five and this week for a change Frank won the count back to put Don Byrne, who had just arrived from Ireland on the previous day, into fifth place.

We had three ‘2’s from Denis Lea, George Cullen and Nick Caulfield.
