Tuesday, Jan. 19, Greenwood A & B – Stableford

It is a long way to this course, I suppose it is the same distance it has always been, but for the last few years it has been much quicker and getting better, until the last few trips.  Of late the Route 331 has become an ‘obstacle course’ and some of our drivers have expressed concern about driving to the three courses in this area and some have decided not to go there at all.

On this day we had an early start and I am pleased to say that all the transport made it in time, just, most shaken but not stirred.  Fortunately we went through paying for the round very quickly and it was soon onto the first tee where we were told we were to play the A & B nines.

Brian Parish (left) with Landis Brooks.

On the way up some had gone through heavy rains so on reaching the first tee we were surprised to find that the course in good condition, although it was a little damp.  We expected more rain but as it turned out the day became a really fine and actually quite warm.  All the players had a really good walk about and played well in the circumstances.  Then it was into transport and back to Pattaya and no talk about the road on the way back as, if anything, it is less good that way than it is going.

In the A Flight, 0 to 18, we had some great scores and Landis Brooks was the winner with a really fine round of 42 points (gross 75).  In second on a count back was Brian Parish with 41 points and Richard Kubicki took third on the same score.  In fourth was John Hackett with 39 points.

In the B Flight we had a count back on 41 points that saw Jim Ferris in first and Derek Brook in second.  In third was Dick Warberg with 40 points and in fourth was Torsten Bischoff with 39.

Near Pins: Nigel Perry, Takeshi Hakozaki, Bob Watson, Landis Brooks

Long Putts: Carole Kubicki, Richard Kubicki

Friday, Jan. 22, Pattavia – Stableford

On the rotation for Friday was Pattavia Country Club.  A large group of 25 golfers decided it was worth it to take the drive out, and after cups of ambition and victuals at BJ’s Lodge, the cars and van were loaded and off we went.

Pattavia represents great value and the course is in very good to excellent condition.  The back nine especially is scenic and well maintained, and certainly no one complains about the facilities anymore.  Check it out.

With a full load of golfers it would be difficult to get into the winners circle, but some rose to the occasion.  In A-Flight (0-18), Brian Parish (H/cap 13) is on a roll lately and continued this day with the best score of the day with 39 points.  In second place was Landis Brooks (9) with a fine 37 points, winning on count back over the always steady Takeshi Hakozaki.

Winning the B-flight was the lovely Rita Zoebeli (25) on count back over Dick Warberg (21), each with 34 points.  Next came Tom Cotton (22) with a respectable 32 points.

Near Pins: Landis Brooks (2), Carole Kubicki, John Anderson.

Long Putts: Dick Warberg, Brian Parish.
