IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf Group

Sunday, Jan. 24, Green Valley – Stableford

It was an absolutely beautiful day at Green Valley with the kind of temperature we would usually expect in November and December and perfect for golf.

The cool day seemed to help a few of our Scottish friends, especially Paul Semple who, playing off a three handicap, went round in one over par gross to score thirty eight points and top the A Flight standings.  Another Scottish friend, Craig Robson, had the next best score with thirty seven points for second.  We then had two players on thirty six with Donal Lyne winning the count back over Kevin Blake.  George Cullen won another count back to come fifth and Declan Kelly just missed out.

Paul Semple.

In B Flight the best score was thirty five points, this coming from John McGarry while Brian Lalor placed second with thirty three.  Sean Hallahan took the third spot with thirty one points and Damien Montague (fourth) and Joe Peters (fifth) completed the podium.

We had two ‘2’s today, with George Cullen making it a very profitable day for himself as he got both of them.

Tuesday, Jan. 26, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Today we had groups going to two different venues, one group here to the beautiful Laem Chabang and the other going to Crystal Bay.

Again today we got great value courtesy of one of our members who had vouchers, which gave us a 50% discount on the green fees.  All our friends were delighted with the course and wanted to return again so we have it booked again for next month when we will be getting around a 35% discount, which still makes it great value for such a magnificent course and we expect to have a large group out again.

Although it was a perfect day for golf the scoring was very poor indeed with only one person playing to their handicap and everyone else a very long way behind him.  Kevin Blake was the man and he had thirty eight points to win by an eight shot margin. Damien Montague who was playing his last game for this trip before returning to sunny Ireland was very surprised to hear that he was in second place, beating Barney Coleman on a count back.  Even more surprised were both Don Byrne and Andy Galvin who took fourth and fifth respectively with twenty nine points after Don edged another count back.

Kevin Blake also got the only ‘2’ of the day.

1st Kevin Blake (9) 38pts

2nd Damien Montague (18) 30pts

3rd Barney Coleman (9) 30pts

4th Don Byrne (17) 29pts

5th Andy Galvin (24) 29pts

Tuesday, Jan. 26, Crystal Bay – Stableford

We had our second group out at Crystal Bay today and we must have sent our best golfers here as the scoring was much better than our other group at Laem Chabang.

Joe Peters.

Barney Sheedy again showed what a steady golfer he is and won the A Flight with thirty eight points.  Jack Behan, who has also been playing very well this year, took the second place one point behind Jack and Keith Murphy was third with thirty six.

In B Flight we also had a thirty eight pointer, this time from Darren Murphy who took first place.  In second was Brian Lalor with thirty three, beating Derek Kane in on a count back.

We had three ‘2’s today, coming from Barney Sheedy, Jack Behan and Tony Dore.

A Flight

1st Barney Sheedy (10) 38pts

2nd Jack Behan (16) 37pts

3rd Keith Murphy (17) 36pts

B Flight

1st Darren Murphy (23) 38pts

2nd Brian Lalor (23) 33pts

3rd Derek Kane (23) 33pts

Thursday, Jan. 28, The Emerald – Stableford

Friday we had another mix up with bookings so we were lucky to get a large group in here at such short notice and at the end of the day everyone were very happy to play Emerald.

That was certainly the case for Joe Peters who had forty four points the last time he played here and despite losing four shots off his handicap since then, he was it again today with a winning score of forty one points.  Well done Joe, a great score on this difficult course.

In second place in B Flight with a more modest thirty six points was John McGarry while Ger Lodge took the third and John Fenwick fourth.

In the A Flight, Barney Sheedy won with a level par thirty six points and Jack Behan, who was playing his last game for this trip, went home happy as he came second with thirty two.  Declan Kelly also had thirty two but lost the count back to Jack and had to settle for third.  Joe McArdle took the last place with thirty one.

Joe Peters and Declan Kelly shared the ‘2’s pot with one each.

A Flight

1st Barney Sheedy (9) 36pts

2nd Jack Behan (16) 32pts
