BANGKOK – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) expects the construction of a drainage tunnel under Bang Sue Canal to be completed by 2017.
M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Bangkok Governor, this week followed up on the progress of the construction. The tunnel starts from Ratchadaphisek Road and continues down to the Chao Phraya River.
The Governor said when completed the tunnel would prevent flooding in six districts namely Dusit, Bang Sue, Phaya Thai, Chatuchak, Din Daeng, and Huai Khwang.
A pumping station will be placed at the end of the tunnel where it reaches the Chao Phraya River, with a pumping capacity of up to 60 cubic meters of water per second.
The entire project will cost around 2.48 billion baht. At this point, the tunnel is 46% complete and is expected to be ready by 2017.
