PSC Golf from The Growling Swan
Monday, Feb. 8, Pattaya C.C.- Stableford
A fantastic field of 35 spritely golfers gathered for the Growling Swan trip to Pattaya Country Club to play a stableford event. Warm welcomes were extended to Gert Riedler, David Marshall & John Ferris.
Pre-game, Gerri Crilly summised that a good golf partner is one who’s always slightly worse than you are… that’s why Gerri gets so many requests to play with friends. Gerri’s sledging of late has peaked, so much so that he even makes fun of his own bad haircut.
(L to R) Pierre Cere, Khan Speechley & John Anderson.
On course, we played off the white tees in cool conditions. The course played tough with bare hardpan lies. The green keeper must have had a big night out because many hole locations were on slopes, which made putting very difficult on the slick greens
Fred Cuypers, Troy Pickford and Paul Jackson enjoyed resounding wins in their respective grades. On a packed leader board the highly excited Khan Speechley, Ian Masterson, Dennis Steele and Peter Grey all snuck in to enjoy podium finishes.

Thursday, Feb. 11, Greenwood – Stableford
Four buses loaded with 31 enthusiastic golfers departed from The Swan for the one hour plus trip up the highway to Greenwood Golf Club. Most of the bus banter was about the grudge match that was about to take place as Geri Chilly and Jayson Schembri had challenged Shane (Jockey) Young and Peter Grey to a winner takes all contest.
(L to R) Paul Jackson, Troy Pickford & Fred Cuypers.
The weather was in our favour with a bit of cloud cover and a slight breeze from time to time. The course was in great nick although there was little run on the fairways but the greens were playing true and we were all in for an interesting game of golf. We played courses A & B from the yellow tees.
Pierre showed the way yet again in Div. 1, with Peter Bars and Don Richardson filling the miner places. In Div. 2 it was a bigger story as Khan Speechley shot an amazing 48 points from his handicap of 18, what a great effort. Coming in second and third were Ebrahim and newcomer Bernie Stevens. Div3 was taken out by John Anderson who appears to have hit a purple patch, with JC Lhoste and Ian Masterson filling second and third podium spots.
With regards to the ‘grudge match’, Young and Grey did everything right on the front nine and started the tenth with an eleven shot lead. To their credit, Crilly and Schembri fought themselves back into the game but the margin was too great and they fell four points short.
