We had a big turnout for Sunday’s trip to Silky Oak, 32 players, so it was to be 3 flights with 3 places in each.

When we got to Green Valley it was the same old story with one girl on the counter taking cash and credit cards at the same time with all the other staff busy playing games on their phones.  When we finally paid our green fees we were told they had run out of caddies and carts.  With people on the tee waiting to tee off I had to grab my clubs and a spare cart to get to the 1st tee.  On the way I passed the handicap sec Aidan Murray and I thought he had trouble with his cart but no, the caddy did not know the way to the course.  I said follow me and best of luck with the lines.

We eventually got all the 8 four-balls away and the weather made up for all the problems earlier.

A flight was won by Chas Murray, now off 5 hcp, with 37 points, followed one point behind by John Nalty who beat the luckless Christen Boysen on count back.

B flight was taken by Dave Nicholson, outshining his playing partners for a change with 37 points and just beating Tony Dolphin.  The Welsh Wizard Phil Davies was two further back in third place.

Aidan Murray topped the C flight with the best score of the day, 38 points.  The resurgent Barry Tregurtha took second with 37 and Eamon Doyle rolled back the years with 35 points for third.

With 5 par 3’s and 32 golfers you would have thought there would have been loads of 2’s, but sadly none so all the pot was put into the prizes.

Friday, Feb. 3, Crystal Bay – Stableford

A Flight

1st Jacob Olsen (9) 40pts

2nd Peter Hynard (14) 37pts

3rd Christen Boysen (10) 37pts

B Flight

1st Anders Soekjaen (19) 37pts

2nd John Hartigan (21) 37pts

C Flight

1st Barry Tregurtha (22) 40pts

2nd Micheal Pallesem (22) 36pts

3rd Tom Morrisroe (24) 33pts

We had a late change of venue today due to Mountain Shadow losing our booking, and with 3 other societies playing there we agreed to switch to Crystal Bay.  With B course still very soft we played ‘lift clean and cheat’ on the fairways.

We welcomed back from Denmark and straight off the plane Jacob Olsen complaining he had no sleep and also from Denmark a trio of Micheal Pallesen, Soren Hansen& Tor Harlstrup and it seems the Vikings are fighting back now they have sent for reinforcements.

A flight was won by Jacob Olsen with 40 points, followed by Peter Hynard with 37 who beat Christen Boysen on count back.

Another Dane, Anders Soekjaen, took the B flight honours with 37 points, edging John Hartigan on count back while Norway’s best bus driver Tore Eliassen rounded off the places with 32 points.

Barry Tregurtha found the form that was missing at the Ryder Cup to take first place in C flight with 40 points.  Yet another Dane, Micheal Pallesem, filled second spot with an even par 36 points and he was followed by ‘Old’ Tom Morrisroe (a distant relative) with33.

Near pins were claimed by John Hartigan, Chas’ Murray, Ed Wyckoff & Jacob Olsen  and the long putts by John Hartigan & Alex Tregurtha.
