There are two givens in this column – you are in the bold print if (a) if you win the monthly medal or (b) you have a hole in one. What happens when the phenomena occurs not only in the same week but on the same day? Well the headline committee. in an effort to stop the scribe being sued or thrashed with a seven iron, decided to split the award to Louis Goergen for his hole in one on the par three 16th hole and to the monthly medal winner John Mulrooney, who I might add was caddie to Darren Clarke when he won the British Open.

John won a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey which he generously shared with all at the presentation. Also his name will be etched on the Lewiinski’s wall of shame and he will get a personal invite to the Gold medal to be played later in the year.
John was followed up the A Flight podium steps by Vincent Connellan with a sound even par round. Roger Emery, with a net 74, filled the bronze step on the podium after a count back decision over the one and only Peter LeNoury.
Ian Pickles had the best return in B Flight and on the day with a net 69. Aussie Nick Odnoral filled the silver slot with a steady net 71, leaving Peter Ennis to tidy up the flight with a net 72.
C Flight was the domain of Irishman John O’Neill who fired a net 74. John was two shots clear of the tandem of Sir William Peach and Henr Braak, the resulting count back dictating that William was to fill the silver slot and Henr the bronze.
Monday, Feb. 15, Crystal Bay – Stableford
1st Derek Briton (30) 35pts
2nd Reg McKay (14) 34pts
3rd Pen Caruthers (14) 34pts
4th Clair Pettitt 9340 34pts
A relatively modest group took on the favourite course of many, Crystal Bay. The scores on the day reflected the difficulty of the layout as no person bettered their handicap and the top score was Derek Britton with a steady 35 points.
Three players were log jammed on 34 points; Scotland’s Buckie boy Reg McKay, Pen Caruthers and Clair Pettitt and when the jam was cleared it was Reg who emerged with the silver, Pen the bronze as Clair was left to tidy up the flight.
Wednesday, Feb. 17, Pattana – Stableford

We ventured to the very tricky Gussan designed Pattana today, the course as always was found to be in excellent condition, with its tight fairways and fast greens.
You need to keep your drives straight on this course and Barry Copestake is pretty good at that. Barry’s accuracy off the tee helped him to win B Flight and pick up the man of the match honours by beating Ireland’s John ‘the big easy’ Hartigan by five strokes. Peter Ennis rounded out the flight with a very creditable 37 points.
Skipping up to A Flight we found Pen Caruthers standing atop the podium with a solid 39 points, but first he had to beat Matt Timbrell in a count back. Vincent Connellan closed the flight with a solid 38 points.
Two of Lewiinski’s partners filled the two top places in C Flight, Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick the gold and Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw the silver as both were a shot clear of Jim Anglim.
Friday, Feb. 19, Burapha C & D – Stableford
A Flight

The gang closed the week with a visit to Burapha to play the C & D layouts in a stableford comp. The ‘thunder from down under’ Paul Bray showed a bit of the form we know he is capable of to win A Flight and the man of the match honours with a splendid 40 points. Pen Caruthers showed he is on form as well as he posted a steady 37 points to pick up the silver. Matt Timbrell on 35 points and Louis Goergen with 34 filled the minor flight places.
Henr Braak was the top player in B Flight with a steady even par round and was trailed in by one shot increments by David Wilson, John Darby and Danny Loyd.
