BANGKOK, 19 August 2011 – The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will speed up the ICT community learning centre project in order for the establishment of such centres to be completed within August 2011.
Deputy Permanent Secretary for ICT Thaneerat Siriphachana stated that over 1,500 ICT learning centres have been established in communities nationwide. He expected that the establishment of the rest of 300 centres will be completed within August 2011.
Mr Thaneerat regarded the operation of the centres a success so far because people in communities have used computers as a medium for community development in many ways according to the objectives of the ICT community learning centre project.
The project aims to encourage people in communities to use ICT learning system for life-quality development and to reduce gaps in information access. The system is also considered a non-formal education format that truly promotes a learning system in communities.
The deputy permanent secretary noted that the ICT Ministry wants this project to be the source of information in various aspects ranging from agriculture to people’s quality of life and serves as a centre to provide information on natural disaster warning, which therefore will be very beneficial for the public.
