PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, March 7, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Twenty seven golfers set out to take on the ‘crocodile hole’ at Treasure Hill GC, the 16th claims plenty of victims as scoring on this hole is quite low.  The weather looked good and excitement was in the air.

We attacked the course from the yellow tees and although the layout was in great nick (and the greens played true) scores were on the lower side of average.  It was also obvious as to how the golf high season activity is slowing down as no other groups were spotted on this normally very popular course.

Both divisions had four prizes places on offer and all were separated by count backs

(L to R front) Eric Black, Kae Dayton and Roy Dayton.

Playing partners Patrick Engles and Pierre Cere went down to the wire, as did Graham Rice and Stu (Cassa) Rifkin.  Then Kae got the chockies via the count back system from Tiziano.  JC Lhoste took care of our resident scorer, John Anderson, again on a count back!

Thursday, March 10, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Plenty of golfers crammed into three 9-seater mini buses, and cars were also used to ferry everyone to Khao Kheow for another testing round of golf.

The usual moans and groans were heard when it was announced we were to be playing off the yellow tee markers, which are situated further back than the white ones.  Mike ‘Coach’ Gosden (amongst others) was happy with the announcement… Not!

We do aim to please but unfortunately we cannot please everybody all of the time.  We would like suggestions as to how we can remedy this.  A suggestion box exists but to date has not been used, we have a good thing going here let’s not destroy it!

It was another hot day with sporadic light breezes.  The course was in its usual great condition.  Some players had good caddies, some had mediocre caddies and I had one a few months into her new career but who seemed more interested in texting her boyfriend than learning green breaks!

According to after shower chatter there could have been some great scores posted, with a few players claiming even par and one over after 7 holes but alas the wheels fell off and only three played to their handicaps.

It was reported that the Colonel (Alan Sanders) laid up on the short island hole (C8) by hitting to the ladies red tee in an endeavor to get closer to the green!  He also had an ‘airy’ on C3 according to my sources, but despite his misadventures he went on to win some change.

At presentations back at the Growling Swan our host Peter Grey congratulated a married couple who delighted in their efforts today and were for the first time seen hugging and kissing each other.  Kae Dayton won A grade and hubby Roy won B grade, both with 36 points.  Well done guys.  One other notable was Alex Field who also scored 36 points but lost on a count back to Kae.
