Royal Thai Navy sailors were trained to quickly respond to oil spills at sea through a joint program with Rayong’s IRPC Co.
Navy Capt. Samrerng Chanso chaired the March 15-18 IRPC Oil Spill Response Team workshop at IRPC Technical School. He said the seminar focused on fostering cooperation between the military, business and private sectors to respond quickly to marine spills and protect the ecosystem.
Patrol boats were deployed to Rayong Bay during training to quickly respond to oil spills at sea.
Training employed real-life situations, equipment classroom training to emphasize the roles of each group.
Patrol boats were deployed to Rayong Bay where sailors estimated the radius of an oil spill before conducting another investigation by helicopter. Other steps included communicating with the coordination center to send out more boats to sweep up the oil spill and spray dispersers.
