Agro-tech to be introduced to farmers this year

BANGKOK- The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has made a deal with private companies and cooperatives to introduce farmers to agricultural technology, in a joint effort to create value-added farm products. 

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Gen Chatchai Sarikulya presided over the agreement-signing ceremony between Cooperative Promotion Department, the private companies and representatives from various cooperatives.

The move is also in line with the Civil State or Pracharat Policy. Under this agreement, fish and prawn farmers in nine provinces will pilot aquaculture technology. Then technological assistance will be expanded to other kinds of farmers and ranchers.

The first group of seafood farmers are expected to produce as much as 8,000 tons of fish and prawns with a total value of 499 million baht.
