Japan’s Foreign Minister to visit Thailand

BANGKOK – The Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs is set to visit to Thailand today, marking the first visit from Japan’s Foreign Minister during the past 5 years.

Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida will be embarking on his official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand on 1-2 May 2016, according to the invitation from Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This will mark the first official visit from Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs during the past 5 years. Thailand is the first country that the Japanese Foreign Minister will visit as part of his trip to the South East Asian nations.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Japan will hold a meeting on the evening of 1 May 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Bangkok, discussing and exchanging views on bilateral cooperation on the economy and international affairs, such as cooperative frameworks within the UN and ASEAN, and regional security.

Both leaders will then sign a Memorandum of Intend (MOI) on the promotion of cooperation in agriculture and other areas related to the government of Thailand and Japan, followed by a dinner hosted by Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to honour his Japanese counterpart and officials later in the same evening.

Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs will be making a courtesy call to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak on 2 May 2016.
