PHUKET– Phuket authorities have reclaimed approximately 500 rai of public land from illegal vendors. They will hold a meeting this week to discuss measures to compensate the vendors and those affected by the recent land reclamation effort.
Deputy Governor of Phuket, Chokdee Amornwat said a huge amount of progress has been made in the attempt to establish order on several beaches in the province. Authorities were able to retrieve 500 rai of public space encroached upon by stall owners and vendors.
The province will renovate the affected landscape and is considering the possibility of using the land to organize activities in honor of Their Majesties the King and Queen.
A committee has also been formed to find measures to compensate the vendors and those who might have been affected by the reclamation policy. The committee is expected to meet this week to go over the compensation plan.
