Monday, April 25, Pattana – Stableford

This was our inaugural game departing from our new venue of Fraser’s Bar on Thappraya Road and a trip to Pattana saw us have our normal stableford game for two divisions plus a pairs better-ball sponsored by the rollover kitty.  We were allocated the C and A nines and the cut in the two divisions came at 9-17 and 18 plus.

Scoring a remarkable 23 points on the front nine, Don Head won division 1 with 40 points in total while Jerry Sweetnam was second on 36 and Chris Voller third with 35.

Martin Grimoldby and Bob Poole.

Bob Poole’s 38 points topped division 2 standings, with Colin James second on 32 and William Chang beating Andy Oz 16/15 on count back for third, both on 31 points each.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Martin Grimoldby, Bryan Rought, Jerry Sweetnam and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) William Chang and Andy Oz (2).

Colin James.

In the technical prizes, nearest the pin in two shots on C6 was won by Martin Grimolby in division 1 and Bob Poole in division 2; the longest drives on A1 went to Tim Hake and Paul Butler and the prizes for nearest the pin in three shots on A5 went to Jerry Sweetnam and William Chang.

Martin Grimoldby birdied C2 and Andy Oz and James Tognela A3 to claim the only ‘2’s of the day.

Paul Butler and Andy Oz with 47 points were the winners in the team better ball, three ahead of Martin Grimoldby and Bob Poole in second place with 44 and in third place with 43 points came Jerry Sweetnam and Colin James.

Wednesday, April 27, Plutaluang – Stableford

It was a slightly cooler day here than the tremendous heat throughout the round on Monday and we booked the East and South courses for a change.

A 9-16 cut today and the Welsh boyo Curtis Hessler returned the best score of the day to win division 2 with 39 points.  Paul Butler came in second one point behind and Colin James was third with 35.

Arthur Hancock won division 1 after a 22/19 back-nine count back helped him beat Chris Voller, both scoring 36 points overall.  Jerry Sweetnam was third with 34 points.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Colin Aspinall and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Paul Hartley and Don Head.

Alan Bissell birdied E2 in division 1 and in division 2 there was a rollover in the ‘2’s to Emerald next Monday.

Friday, April 29, Eastern Star – Stableford

Another 300 baht green fee for all of our guests today and they were well pleased with the condition of the course – far improved from the previous Friday with the greens in the best shape we have seen for a couple of months.

James Tognela.

Paul Butler recorded the best score of the day to win division 2 with 40 points.  Darryl Blair came in second five points behind and Colin Aspinall was third on 34.

Arthur Hancock topped the podium again in division 1 but only with 35 points this time.  Bill Bertram was second with 33 and there were three scores of 31 fighting for third place, Kevin Taylor edging out Ian Speirs and Chris Voller on count back.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Jerry Sweetnam and Kevin Taylor (2), and (Div 2) Darryl Blair, Glyn Evans and Paul Hartley.

There were no ‘2’s in division 1 but in division 2 we almost had a hole in one on the 13th, the ball finishing 18 inches past the cup and the organizer was a happy chappie as he wasn’t required to ring the bell back at the bar.  Paul Butler birdied the 17th to split the pot.
