Electricity consumption broke the record for the 7th time this year with usage peaked at 2.12 pm on Wednesday at 29,600.8 megawatts, said Mr Soonchai Kamnoonseth, governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

The last record was registered on April 28 with power consumption soared to 29,403.7 megawatts.

The governor said that power consumption in the industrial sector, service sector and households on Wednesday increased sharply because it was a working day after long holidays and coupled with the hot weather.

However, he assured that EGAT had enough power reserves to meet with power demand of up to 32,000 megawatts. He further said that EGAT made preparations to cope with anticipated increase in power consumption during the months of April and May by suspending major repairs, storing more bunker oil and natural gas in reserves and securing power supplies from Laos.
