Late last month, Unithai Shipyard and Engineering Ltd. held the christening and launching ceremony for a 71.39MW “floating power plant”.

Unithai Shipyard was awarded the contract early this year by Wartsila Finland Oy, a leading power-plant company in Europe. The sea-going power-generating plant is the first of its kind ever constructed in Thailand.

Wartsila Finland Oy awarded Unithai Shipyard the contract to construct the floating power plant “Luise”.

The floating plant “Luise” will be installed on an 85-metre barge, complete with a piping system, outfitting and a radiator cooling system. It will have an 8 x W20 V32-capacity diesel generator to produce 71,390 kilowatts.

The Luise is scheduled for delivery by the end of this year.

“This project, a first for Thailand, marks another significant milestone in the history of both Unithai Shipyard and the Kingdom,” said Teerapon Udomkanjananan, operation director of Unithai Shipyard. “It signifies that Unithai Shipyard’s competency, capability and strengths have been recognized by other world-class industries.”
