NARATHIWAT, Sept 23 — The first arrest warrant will be issued for the leading suspect in three bomb incidents in the southern province of Narathiwat last Friday, a planned sequential series of incidents that left five people dead, including four Malaysian tourists.
Narathiwat provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Chaiyathat Inthanuchit said that the first arrest warrant will be issued for a suspect identified as Suhaidee Kubaru, a native of Narathiwat’s Su-ngai Padi district.
Police gathered evidence from surveillance television images from a camera near the Merlin Hotel, that was hit by the third bomb.
According to the investigation, Mr Suhaidee was one of a team of assailants involved in at least two bombings in Su-ngai Kolok district. It was believed that he fled to the neighbouring country. Narathiwat police have already coordinated with Malaysian police to arrest him.
Three explosions hit three locations in Su-ngai Kolok last Friday, killing five persons and wounding more than a hundred others.
Police said more arrest warrants were expected to be issued later after questioning 35 witnesses who are clarifying what took place to resolve the case.
Gen Chaiyathat said that police have joined with military and administrative staff to ensure safety for the public, and reassured the public to have confidence in the authorities abilities in security matters.
