Auto production in first 8 months of 2011 up 5% year-on-year: FTI

BANGKOK, Sept 22 – Thailand’s total auto production in the first eight months of this year was 1.1 million units, up 5.23 per cent, according to Surapong Paisitpattanapong, spokesman of the Federation of Thai Industry (FTI)’s automotive group.

Mr Surapong said that auto production from Sept to Nov 2011 was forecast at 534,139 units while motorcycle production from Sept to Nov 2011 totalled 627,374 units.

Motorcycle production in August totalled 306,346 units, up 45.36 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, domestic auto sales in August totalled 79,043 units, an increase of 8.42 per cent from the previous month and an increase of 20.3 per cent year-on-year as the country’s economy continued to grow.

Motorcycle sales reached 190,718 units, up 17.35 per cent from the same period last year and up 7.1 per cent from the previous month this year.

From Jan to Aug 2011, auto sales totalled 583,958 units, rising by 19.6 per cent from the same period last year while motorcycle sales in the first eight months were 1.4 million, up 15.77 per cent year-on-year.

Auto production in August this year totalled 153,180 units, up 8.6 per cent year-on-year, an increase of 4.04 per cent from the previous month.
