Some Enchanted Evening

Recently, our town had a great opportunity to witness a rare performance of opera, choir, pop and jazz singers at Sunset Park Resort and Spa accompanied by two very talented pianists, Wi Hyun Jeong and Ben Hansen.  The concert was kindly hosted by Apsorn Kuramarohita, the President of Sunset Group.

Enchanted was the evening as the sea breeze carried the flow of the most romantic and magnificent tunes from the Italian opera arias, Neapolitan canzones and contemporary favorites including “E Lucevan Le Stelle” from Tosca, and “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot by E Puccini, sung by the famous Korean opera singer and Meister Tenor Kim Jun Man.

Adding a bit of variety and color to the concert, the solo, trio and duet singers, who are on their way to being famous, entertained the audience with their repertoires.  Dinie De Vries sang “Lili Marlene”, Mia Van’t Hof gave a great rendition of “Le Vie En Rose”, while “The Swan” was played expertly by Alina Gabriela Suwannakoot on flute, and Wi Hyun Jeong on the piano.  “Roy Rao” or “Cracked Glass” was crooned by lamenting Alvi Sinthuvanik, Roger Farman sang “Someone to Watch Over me”, Barry Pethig “Could Have Danced All Night”, and finally, “All of Me” was belted out by Sue K.

The duet Tuntikon Muangnongwa and Lee Hae Bin did a number on “Non Dimenticar”.  The Trios, Kim Jun Man, Alison Shale, and Lena Tan sang their hearts out on “All I Ask of You”, while Pat Burbridge, Kim Schnyder and Sue chirped away “Cheek to Cheek”.

Joining the concert in force were Meister Jun’s students from far and near, the expat community called the International Bella Voce and Thai youths from the Siam Choir of Bangkok.  The group gave their debut recital on choral pieces such as “Qui Presso a Te Signor” by W.A. Mozart, “Va Pensiero Sull’ ali Dorate” from Nabucco by G. Verdi, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, and ending with the famous “L. Denza’s Funiculi Funicula.”

The whirlwind tour did not stop there as a week later the group went on to perform their second concert at the Siam Art and Cultural Center in Bangkok as part of the celebration for his Majesty the King’s 84th birthday under the title “Dreams and Memories”.  This charity event was organized by Sod-Nian Kuramarohita and the Embassy of Hungary.

We wish these professionals as well as the budding young and not so young artists all the best in their music career and hobby.
