BANGKOK, 29 October 2011 – The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority has lowered its tap water supply to Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Thonburi as floodwater has impaired the quality of raw water of the western side of the Chao Phraya River.
The floodwater which carries dirt has spilled into the raw water system, causing the tap water production to take a longer time. As a result, Maha Sawat Water Treatment Plant which feeds the water to Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Thonburi has to lower its daily supply of 900,000 cubic meters to 400,000 cubic meters.
The tap water will be dispensed between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the morning and between 17 p.m. and 20 p.m. in the evening. Affected areas will be Muang, western Pak Kret, Bang Bua Thong, Bang Yai, Sai Noi and Bang Kruay districts in Nonthaburi, Phra Pradaeng and western Phra Samut Chedi districts in Samut Praka and all 15 districts in Thonburi. However, the supply cuts do not apply to hospitals.
The MWA also confirmed that the water quality is still on a par with international standards.
