Pattaya will take another stab at trying to clean up the tangled mess of telephone and electrical cables along Sukhumvit Road.

At an Oct. 20 Pattaya City Hall meeting, Councilman Banlue Kullavanijaya said work will begin Nov. 9 in front of Pattaya School No. 7 and continue into December.

Banlue has made untangling the spaghetti-like network of wires in his district his personal crusade, twice dragging telephone and utility company workers to Sukhumvit Road to watch as city workers pulled unused wires off poles in front of a pack of photographers. This time, at least, he’s giving them some warning.

The Nov. 9 effort, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., targets telephone, cable television and electricity cables on the western side of Sukhumvit near the Pattaya city border. Workers will then move to the Thepprasit Road intersection Nov. 23 and finally to Central Road’s intersection on Dec. 8.

Banlue called the mess of cables ugly and unnecessary and pledged to continually monitor the situation, noting utility company workers simply string up new lines without ever removing out-of-service cables.
