PSC golf from the Café Kronborg
Monday,November 7, Mountain Shadow – Stableford
As predicted a week ago we were about to see an increase in numbers and sure enough it was necessary to obtain two more tee spots at Mountain Shadow for today’s competition. In actual fact we had a couple of golfers on the “reserve” list so it was very disappointing to have one golfer not show on the morning without prior notification, thus depriving someone of a spot in the field.
About two thirds of the field of 31 assembled at Café Kronborg on yet another beautiful Pattaya morning and it was great to see some old faces back with us again. We welcomed back Susanne & Svend Gaarde from Denmark, Peter Hammond from the U.K., Ulf Larsson from Sweden, Don Richardson from Northern Ireland, Ernst Hansen from Denmark and Gordon Clegg on R & R from his job in Saudi Arabia.
Bo Cardwell, Dave Richardson & Niels Hansen.
After leaving the Kronny right on time at 0815 hrs we arrived at the course 43 minutes later to find that it was in great shape with the greens as slick as ever and putting from above the hole on most greens was not the preferred option, as confirmed by Mike Gosden, myself and no doubt many others. The great weather continued throughout the day and even after a couple of drink stops it was a four hour and fifteen minute round.
Scoring was easy for a few and difficult for many on this testing layout and a count back to determine the winner of A Flight saw Niels Hansen (22 point back nine) victorious over Ken “let’s hear it for” Bernek (20 point back nine), both having 40 points. Dr Paul Cardwell finished third with a fine 39 points with Don Richardson fourth on 36 points and Ted Morris in fifth place with 34 points.
Bo “Mum to be” Cardwell easily won the B Flight with a terrific 42 points with Kjeld Ravn 5 points further back in second spot. Graham Buckingham was third with 36 points and a three way count back for fourth & fifth saw Jan Lovgreen (16 point back nine) come out ahead of Ulla Ravn (15 point back nine). All three had 32 points and Gordon Clegg (13 point back nine) was the one who just missed out.

Thursday, Nov. 10, Crystal Bay A & B – Stableford
Once more we had very close to a full field as there were 31 golfers signed up for today’s competition at the beautiful Crystal Bay course. Unfortunately there was a late cancellation due to sickness, however Café Kronborg was very busy as we assembled for the day’s golf. We were happy to welcome Andre & Annie Barril from France, Maurice Herbergs from Holland and Finn Klarkson & Arne Fuglholt from Denmark.
Heading off down Highway 3 in four mini vans we encountered some fairly heavy traffic at first but soon made up time and arrived at the Resort 45 minutes later. It was reasonably busy and there was a short wait but we managed to get our first group away 30 minutes early at 0930 hrs. Once more the weather was terrific although very hot at times and we found the course in great shape with very well prepared greens. There were patches of water in a few spots on the fairways but all in all a great golf course in excellent nick.
The groups in front of us did not slow us up at all and we completed the front nine (B) in just over two hours. After a much needed 10 minute drink break at the half way mark we proceeded on A nine and completed the full round in the good time of four hours & twenty minutes.
There were some fairly good scores on the day, particularly in the A Flight which was won by last start winner Niels Hansen with 38 points. A count back was necessary to decide second & third places with Don Richardson (21 point back nine) edging out Mike Winfield (18 point back nine), both having 37 points. Your writer made a welcome return to the podium and finished fourth with 36 points and the returning Takeshi Hakozaki got fifth spot with 34 points.
Thirty six points was good enough for Bent Moeller to win the B Flight and in another count back to determine second and third Kjeld Ravn (19 point back nine) beat Jan Lovgreen (17 point back nine), both finishing with 34 points. J C L’Hoste took out fourth spot with 32 points while a three way count back to decide fifth saw Ulla Ravn (18 point back nine) finish ahead of Finn Klarkson (16 point back nine) and Annie Barrie (14 point back nine), all on 30 points.
