Two Thai men impersonating police officers robbed an Australian national during a late-night traffic stop in Jomtien Beach.

Oliver Perry, 45, complained to officers at the Dongtan Police Station that he was driving near the Rompat market around 3 a.m. Nov. 29 when two men on a motorbike pulled alongside and waved him to the curb.

Dressing and acting as if they were plain-clothes police officers, one of the men pulled the key out of Perry’s motorbike ignition while the other demanded to see inside a backpack the Aussie was wearing. Once they got the bag, they fled on the bike.

Perry said the bag contained a digital camera, mobile phone, laptop computer, 8,000 baht and some documents.

After a perfunctory search, police said they could not find the assailants, who they assured the victim were not police officers.
