Staff from the Welfare Dept of Nongprue Municipality accompanied us to a small soi along Nernplabwan, a soi so small it would have been easy to miss. At the end was a small hut which housed a family of 4: two grandparents and two teenage children who had lost their parents some years ago.
The grandmother has lost the use of her legs and squats on the floor all day long. She was not registered at birth and, therefore, does not qualify for medical treatment or assistance from the government but Nongprue City Hall provides as much help as possible with some food and regular visits from the social dept. The grandfather is employed at a local factory/office block as a cleaner.

Sending children to school costs an estimated 5,000 baht per child per year, over and above the allowance made by the government, and the grandparents concern is for the children to continue their education to enable them to obtain work when they leave school at 16 years old.

Following a meeting with the social welfare director of Nongprue City, they expressed a wish that Pattaya Sport Club could make a contribution to ensure the continued education of the children. PSC are always happy to help when the need arises. Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit and Banglamung District Chief Chawalit Saeng-Uthai were present to accept our contribution on Children’s Day at the Municipality Offices when an estimated 2,000 children were present.
A great day was had by all the children with free smacks, ice cream, games and presents were all supplied by Nongprue City Hall.
