23rd International Olympiad in Informatics to be held this summer at PEACH

Pattaya Exhibition And Convention Hall (PEACH), under the flagship of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group, has been selected as the official venue for the 23rd International Olympiad in Informatics Thailand 2011.

A press conference was held at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group recently, announcing Thailand as the host of event, which will be held from July 22-29 this year.

The goals of the IOI are to bring together in a challenge, and give deserving recognition to young students from around the globe who are skilled in informatics (computer science). At the same time, to foster friendship amongst these students who are from diverse cultures to share scientific and cultural experience.

IOI is one of the most recognized computer science competitions in the world, winners of which belong to the best young computer scientists in the world. As an IOI medalist, doors will open for a place in the most prestigious industries and universities of the world, related to Computer Science and Information Technologies.

In his speech, Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Education Chaiyos Chirametakorn stressed the opportunity this event will offer to stimulate Thai children in computing science and enhance the quality of computer learning for the Kingdom in the future.

Associate Dr. Kanchit Malaivongs, chairman of this year’s event applauded Thailand’s efficiency in undertaking this big-scale event that has received encouraging response from many countries world-wide, where competitors from 84 countries are expected to take part. Dr. Kanchit praised the current preparations that are in advance progress with the cooperation of both the committee and official venue, which is the Royal Cliff Hotels Group.

Arturo Cepeda, president of the IOI in his speech remarked positively on the growing pace of Informatics interest amongst the young in Thailand and stated that Thailand is encouraging students with this talent. Cepeda also added that Thailand’s geographic location and its support towards enhancing Informatics learning and the support towards this competition will result in a very successful event.
