An award-winning outdoor theatre that merges both live action and cinema has opened in Pattaya, bringing another unique tourist attraction to the city.
Both celebrities and politicians were on hand for the May 18 grand opening of the Singha D’Luck Cinematic Theatre on Thepprasit Road. The brainchild of Panjaluck Pasuk Ltd., the project won a silver award for public space usage at the 2017 Singapore Interior Design Awards.
The billion-baht development spread over 10 rai seats 1,400 people per showing and the performance area covers 10,000 sq. meters. A massive projector displays films on the oversized screen while live performers interact with the images from the stage.
The theatre’s debut performance is an original story called “Kaan” about a librarian who is swept away into fantastical stories from Thai literature when he opens a book with his name on it. More than 300 performers form the cast in the 90-minute production.
About two-thirds of those attending the grand opening were Thai, but greater numbers of foreign tourists are expected in the future.
