There are two exciting musical events in Pattaya on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd February 2018 when the Kwangju Opera Company from Korea will be giving two concerts.
The opera company was founded in 1982 and has staged a major opera every year. The seven distinguished singers include Sooyeon Park and Jinhee Kim (sopranos), Eunjung Shin (mezzo-soprano), Kyunam Ko and Hongtae Kim (tenors) Sungjin Hong (baritone) and Haechul Lim (bass). They will be joined by pianist Jihyun Park. All the participants are highly experienced performers and several of them have won international prizes. They all hold prestigious teaching appointments at Korean universities.
The concert programme will include not only opera arias, folksongs, duets and other songs all in six languages: Italian, German, Spanish, French, English and Korean.
At the two Pattaya concerts, the opera company will be joined by the well-known pianist Yeon-kyo Kim and cellist Yuscha Kim. Pianist Yeon-kyo Kim is the winner of various International awards and has performed throughout Europe and even at the White House in Washington. For over twenty years she has been working as the director of television and media ministry for German-speaking countries in Europe. The cellist Yuscha Kim studies at the Hanns Eisler Music Hochschule in Berlin, one of the leading conservatories in Europe. She is a prize winner at national and international competitions and has given concerto performances worldwide.
The Kwangju Opera Company will present their first concert at 4.00pm on Friday 2nd February at St. Nikolaus Church Pattaya, which is located on Sukhumvit Road next to Index Living Mall. Tickets cost Bt 300 and are available at St. Nikolaus Church every Sunday or on the day of the concert.
The second concert with a similar programme will be at a special Gala Dinner on Saturday 3rd February at the renowned Casa Pascal Restaurant on Pattaya Second Road just opposite Royal Garden Plaza. There is a reception at 6pm and the 5-course Gala Dinner, featuring superb food will begin at 6.30pm. Tickets cost Bt 2,500++ to include reception, concert and dinner.
