On Saturday 26th May the Pattaya Soul Club held its 3rd Northern Soul Night event at the Boomerang Bar in Soi Arunothai with 200 plus people coming through the doors.

This has to be the best one yet with the quarterly event now being touted as “The Event to be at”!  The atmosphere on the night was electric, the music superb with just about everyone dancing at some stage, and the dance floor was never empty during the entire night. Everyone raved about the venue, which has that 60’s underground club/bar feel to it. Our thanks to the owners, management and staff for a great job.

There is a group of young people in Bangkok who are reviving the “Mod” scene (from the 60’s). A number of them came down for the weekend (they drove down on their Lambrettas!) and had a really good night with us. One member, “Jimmy Livewire”, was quoted as saying “Gee, I wish our events in Bangkok could be as great as this.”

The main purpose of the Northern Soul Nights is to get people together for a great night’s music and dance. The secondary purpose is to be able to support the community by donating the proceeds from the night to a chosen charity, in this case we decided that Hand to Hand (Daycare Centre for “at risk” children) would be the recipient.

Margie Grainger, the principal of the Hand to Hand Foundation, is an Australian who lives in Pattaya and works tirelessly, for not only the at risk kids, but she and her team also visit families in the slum areas around town on a weekly basis to help with not only the children there, but also the elderly. The Foundation does a lot more than this every day.  It was our pleasure to present Margie with 65,000 baht raised from the 26th May event to help towards the running costs of her foundation.

The next event will be towards the end of August this year (this will be our fourth event) and in November we will be holding a very special Northern Soul Night for our 1 year anniversary. Watch this space everyone. Northern Soul Night, absolutely an “Event not to be missed”.

Earl and Eva would like to thank everyone for their magnificent support, especially our sponsors CSP Construction, Defence International Security, Powerhouse Developments, The Sportsman and Lee Knights. Media sponsors Pattaya Mail, Inspire online Magazine, 88.5 FM, 96 FM and 105 FM.

The next event will be on Friday August 24th at Boomerang, Wombat Bar Complex Soi Arunothai.
