Pattaya will host the Thai film industry’s version of The Oscars on March 6 as the Suphanahong Awards celebrate their 20th anniversary at Central Festival Pattaya Beach.

City, police and tourism and film industry officials met Feb. 16 to prepare for the awards show, which is considered as important to the Thai movie industry as the Academy Awards in the United States are to Hollywood.

The festive event, starting at 3 p.m., will feature live outdoor music, prize drawings, and film screenings.  The awards ceremony itself will be held at the SFX Cinema complex on the sixth floor of the shopping mall.

Both civilian and military police will be on hand to control traffic and manage crowd control to protect the many stars expected to attend.  Traffic will be restricted and re-routed extensively between the beachfront mall and Sukhumvit Road, so drivers are advised to watch for signs and officers and expect delays.
