Held at Rosanne Diamante’s lovely home on the 26th of November, the Pattaya Book Group members turned up in full force for their last meeting of the year.
This month’s focus was on “The Samurai’s Garden” by Gail Tsukiyama, which provoked many different opinions among the members on perceptions about honor, strength, beauty, loneliness, peace and much more.
But that was just the appetizer. The book exchange followed, leaving some happy when they could snatch away coveted books from others, and some sad to be parting with the books they had chosen for themselves but couldn’t keep.
The Book Group gather for their November meeting.
With all academic matters out of the way, a sumptuous pot luck lunch took place accompanied by many (many) bottles of bubbly and numerous trays of sinful desserts.
Altogether some 13,360 baht was collected throughout 2013 from The Book Group members, which will go towards scholarships for needy children.
Come year 2014, twelve more books will under review. These will be: “Shantaram” (Gregory David Roberts); “The Uncle’s Story” (Witi Ihimaera); “The King’s Last Song” (Geoff Ryman); “Wolf Hall” (Hilary Mantel); “The Spirit Catches You & You Fall Down” (Anne Fadiman); “The Lifeboat” (Charlotte Rogan); “The Goldfinch” (Donna Tartt); “Infidel” (Ayaan Hirsi Ali); “Burial Rites” (Hannah Kent); “Pride and Prejudice” (Jane Austen); and “All Roads Lead to Austen” (Amy Elizabeth Smith)
