Last week I asked what car, allegedly “knocked up in a weekend” by a famous designer, is still available today, over 50 years later? The range of engines have changed, but it is one of the most desirable sports cars ever built.
It was, of course, the Lotus Seven, which has been cloned all over the world, and was taken over by Caterham, which in turn just sold out to “Team Lotus” with lots of guff about “coming home” and Chapman’s DNA. Don’t believe any of it. The latest Caterhams are much better cars than the Lotus Seven ever was.

So to this week. What standard production vehicle had performance figures of 39 seconds for zero to 100 km/h? Hint: production started in 1953 and it weighed 1220 kg.
