The Board of Investment (BOI) is dangling the carrot of tax-free holidays for up to 10 years for automakers who will set up production to build Electric Vehicles, of all types including Plug In Hybrids (PHEV’s), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV’s) as well as Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV’s).

The tax holidays are also offered to parts manufacturers who make specific parts for EV’s. However, it is necessary to apply by December 29 (HEV’s) and by the end of 2018 for PHEV’s.

It has been reported elsewhere that Toyota will be the first to take up the BOI offer, with the promise of a 19 billion baht investment in EV manufacture.

EV’s currently on sale in Thailand include the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan X-Trail and the Thai Vera, which has been the subject of examination in Pattaya by the Automotive Focus Group (AFG) here.
