A broken Soi 13/1 (Soi Yamoto) drainage cover will be fixed as soon as city workers can get to it, Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said.

Beer bar owners on Soi Yamoto said they have repeatedly complained about the 5.5-meter-long, 40-centimeter-wide grating, as there is a gap between it and the pavement, posing danger to pedestrians, particularly tourists, who travel the street to visit bars or access the beach.

Bar owners Samran Sudsawad, 30, and Anyaporn Buekuntod, 40, questioned the quality of work done by city contractors as well as public officials’ commitment to tourist safety.

Asked about the problem, Ekasingh admitted the city has known about the problem, as it has been reported to the city Pattaya Call Center. However, there is a backlog of public-works projects.

He said he has told relevant departments to put the problem at the top of their to-do list.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said the city is aware of the problem and will have it fixed as soon as there is a crew available to do the work.
