BANGKOK, 24 October 2013 The Alien Business Committee during the month of October 2013 gave a green light to 48 alien businesses to invest in Thailand. The businesses, with a combined investment value of 1.6 billion baht, is expected to create nearly 600 new jobs.
According to Director-General of the Department of Business Development Phongphan Chianwiriyaphan, the registration of the 48 new alien businesses represented a 9% increase from September 2013’s figure, and a 109% rise year-on-year.. Their investment totaling 1.6 billion baht represented a 332% increase compared to the previous month’s figures, but an 18% year-on-year decrease. Altogether, 330 new alien businesses have opened their doors from January to October this year, a year-on-year increase of 20%, the official said.
Most of the businesses are in the service, office, retail and wholesale sectors. The majority of them are from France, Japan, Germany and the U.S.
