BANGKOK, 9 October 2013  The 4th Regional Customs Bureau in Sonkhla province has seized counterfeit goods worth over 5 million baht.

Officials of the 4th Regional Customs Bureau on Wednesday raided a warehouse in Hat Yai and seized more than 5 million baht worth of designer-brand counterfeit bags and cosmetics. The warehouse is owned by a Phuket-based logistics company, Sahapattana Phuket. The counterfeit products, transported by the same company from Phuket to Hat Yai, were to be further distributed and sold locally.

Officials also searched surrounding areas and found a large amount of imported cigarettes and cough syrup hidden around the central Hat Yai transport station. Police confiscated the goods for further investigation.

According to Mr. Prayut Maneechot (ประยุทธ์ มณีโชติ), Director of the 4th Regional Customs Bureau, the seized items are counterfeit goods produced in violation of intellectual property rights laws. Police will launch further investigation into the case to find out who were behind the smuggling ring.
