BANGKOK, 26 April 2013 The plan for connectivity between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand will be pushed forward through various projects.
The 7th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), attended by Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and Malaysia’s Senate President Abu Zahar, was aimed at pushing forward the plan for concrete cooperation and connectivity among the three nations.
The cooperation and connectivity will be implemented through various projects including construction of Malaysia-Indonesia power interconnection, expansion of customs and immigrations checkpoints, construction of more motorways and sea ports, the establishment of a special economic zone and product distribution centre.
In addition, the standardization of various products and services such as halal foods, para rubber, agricultural products, as well as customs and related border crossing processes will also be expedited.
Representatives from the 3 nations have also signed an MOU on a draft establishment agreement of the Centre for Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Subregional Cooperation (CIMT), which will facilitate and support the effectiveness of the implementation of the projects.
