BANGKOK, 10 September 2012 – The Commerce Ministry believes that the opening of the pineapple futures trading on September 28th, which is supported by the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET), will help stabilize pineapple prices in the country. Having presided over the opening of “Thailand, World’s Pineapple Hub” seminar, Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said that he believed the opening on September 28th of the pineapple futures trading market, which is supported by the AFET, will help raise and stabilize prices of Thai pineapples. It will also make Thailand “Center of Pineapple Futures Trading Market.” The Minister added that Thailand is the world’s number 1 pineapple exporter, with 50 percent of the world’s market share. Thailand’s pineapple export alone accounts for 30 billion baht a year.
