Agriculture Min. to develop local silk production

BANGKOK, 15 January 2014 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has launched a program to develop production and marketing of local silk for both local market and export.

The deputy minister, Amnuay Patise, unveiled after a meeting on how to develop production and marketing of Thai silk on Thursday that the ministry would help local producers improve the quality of their products and open new channels to link with overseas markets.

Local silk producers, importers of silk thread, and traders of silk cloths were invited to the meeting.

Thailand exported 1.077 billion bahts of silk to the world market in 2014, up from 204 million bahts it did in 2013, increasing by 23.39 per cent.
