BANGKOK, 4 September 2013 Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Yukol Limlaemthong has assured that the ministry’s measure to assist rubber farmers in terms of factors of production is more beneficial than a price guarantee program.
Mr Yukol said on Wednesday that the government’s assistance for rubber farmers in their production process would be able to help more than 980,000 farmers nationwide. He insisted that the measure would be more effective than rubber price guarantee since it would help reduce the farmers’ costs of production without posing threats to the price mechanism.
The government has recently approved a budget of more than 5.6 billion baht to aid rubber farmers who have less than 10 rai of rubber plantations. The government will pay them 1,260 baht per rai.
Mr Yukol confirmed that the government would do the utmost in helping the farmers and finding sustainable solutions to their problems.
