BANGKOK, 24 May 2011 – The Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link will reduce its fare for the Express Line to 150 THB per roundtrip from 1 June onwards in a bid to boost the number of passengers.
Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Pakorn Tangjetsakao, as Acting Chief Executive Officer of SRT Electrified Train Co. Ltd, announced that the company was preparing to launch a special promotion to persuade more people to use the Airport Rail Link services after it was found that the number of train users was only 700 people per day, as opposed to the expectation of 2,200. He elaborated that, starting on 1 June, the fare of the Express Line would be lowered from 150 THB per single trip to 90 THB and from 300 THB per roundtrip to 150 THB.
Moreover, extra trains will be added to the timetable of the Express Line and will run from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phayathai Station to provide commuters with more convenience in transferring to the BTS Skytrain. It is currently under the company’s consideration whether to operate the added trains every 30 minutes or every hour.
Mr Pakorn stated that after six months of implementation the promotion would be evaluated in terms of public satisfaction, after which it could be readjusted. He expressed confidence that the fare discount would be able to help double the number of passengers.
